Review: Willy's Wonderland

It would seem that animatronic movies are a thing. First, there was The Banana Splits Movie, and now there is this Willy's Wonderland. The thing that piqued my interest most was that Nicholas Cage was in it, and his movies tend to be a little crazy, so let's check it out!

Nicholas Cage stars as a quiet drifter who unfortunately finds himself stranded in a remote town when his car breaks down. Unable to pay for the repairs he needs, he is offered a deal: spend the night cleaning Willy's Wonderland, an abandoned family fun center, and the repairs to the car will be done in exchange.

But it's not going to be easy as it sounds as this wonderland has a dark secret that "The Janitor" is soon about to discover. He finds himself trapped inside Willy's and locked in an epic battle with the possessed animatronic mascots that roam the halls within. To survive, he has to fight his way through each of them.

The mundane tasks of cleaning Willy's become a fight for survival against wave after wave of demonic animatronics. Fists fly, kicks land, titans clash -- and only one side is going to make it out alive.

I have to confess when I heard about Willy's Wonderland I was wondering if it was attempting to be a Five Nights At Freddy's movie...after seeing The Banana Splits Movie (and having another part of my childhood ruined by a remake) I didn't hold out much hope for this movie.

Happily, it proved me wrong.

Oh sure, there are elements from the FNAF universe if you want to be picky, but there is a different storyline that is good (And makes me hope that IF/WHEN FNAF the Movie comes out it does actually stick to the story in the game. Now, this is not a movie the intellectuals will go for (I'm guessing, I could be wrong) because this is more comedy/action/horror to switch your brain off to and just have fun.

Nicholas Cage is superbly odd in this movie, barring some guttural grunts, he says nothing. Apparently, Cage is fascinated with silent horror, playing someone like The Janitor who says nothing (and is done to brilliant effect too) really appealed to him. There appears to be no reason for him to not say anything, but as I watched the movie (and looked at the running gag in the movie) I do think there is, but I'm going to mention it here as I'm not going to give away potential spoilers to the movie.

So, it definitely not the greatest movie in the World, but it's bloody good fun. Great gags, brilliant fight scenes with "Kick-Yo-Ass" Cage, and an interesting story. Go watch it for some light entertainment!
