Blu-Ray Review: Play It Cool

Ah yes, classic cinema, you just cannot beat it...as much as I love modern cinema, there are some absolute gems that were released in the '50s, '60s, '70s, and '80s. Britain's answer to Elvis Presley, Billy Fury had his big-screen debut in the movie Play It Cool, which Network Distribution have released this week on BluRay.

This charming, musical feature before The Beatles era was one of Michael Winner's earliest films. A box-office hit in 1962 that spawned a Top-Ten single and EP, Play It Cool features cameos from some of the most recognizable music stars of the Sixties, with Bobby Vee, Helen Shapiro and Shane Fenton (better known as Alvin Stardust) among the artists encountered by Fury and his fictional band.

Billy Universe and the Satellites, a happy-go-lucky rhythm and twist group, are on their way to Brussels to compete in a song contest; on that same flight is Ann Bryant, who is being sent overseas by her wealthy father in an attempt to calm down her infatuation with disreputable popster Larry Granger. When bad weather forces the plane to return to the airport, Billy and friends persuade Ann to join them in the West End, where it is decided they will search for Larry. What follows is a whirlwind musical tour of London's nightclubs!

This movie is charming and goes back to a simpler time, and it's just a lovely movie. This High Definition restoration from the original film elements is brilliant too so if you have a good setup for watching movies then it's like watching it at the movies (also great if you own surround sound headphones). The extras on the Blu-Ray are the theatrical trailer and an image gallery which is pretty good.

If you like movies and music from the '60s then you'll love having this in your collection now it has been restored. It's well worth adding to you your collection!

Play It Cool is rated U and is available on Blu-Ray in stores now or from www.networkonair.com
