HalloSCREAM! 2020 #16: Blu-Ray Review - The Strangers

Back in 2007, I got hold of The Strangers on DVD. it's one of the few movies that have really unsettled me, and so where I found out that Second Sight Film was releasing a Limited Edition of this movie, I knew this was certainly going to be one to check out as soon as it was released!

Don't propose at a wedding, doofus!!

After a proposal gone wrong at a friend's wedding, what should have been a romantic getaway at a remote house for Kristen and James is disturbed by a knock on the door at 0400hrs and becomes a most horrific invasion by three disturbing strangers disguised in masks. Their pseudonyms based on the nightmarish masks they wear, Man in the Mask, Dollface, and Pin-up Girl, the twisted and demented trio have nothing but brutality in mind for the occupants of the house and the couple is completely at their mercy, but who exactly are they and what is their motive for doing this?

Kristen and James must fight to survive the night of psychological torment and bloodthirsty violence... the question is will make it out alive?

This movie is brilliant and amazingly unsettling, but being based on 2 sets of true events then I guess it is not that surprising, to be honest. The home invasion movie genre was nothing new when this was initially released, but I do feel that this movie really ramped things up and made it really scary...I know several people who will point blank refuse to watch this movie because of the realism of this movie because they can actually imagine this happening to them and it is too much for them to handle...after all movies are supposed to be escapism, not this could happen to you. The first time I watched this movie I was making sure everything was locked up tight and scarily enough about a month later I did have someone actually knocking on my door early hours in the morning rather drunk and incoherent. Seriously scary stuff.

Awesome looking set.

The disc has some nice extras on it! There are 2 versions of the movie (Theatrical and Extended cuts), interviews as well as deleted scenes. The packaging is pretty good, with a brilliant looking hard slipcase, and housed within that along with the Blu-Ray is a poster of the cover artwork and a softcover book with essays/stills/behind the scenes pictures.

This Limited Edition boxset is only a run of 3,000 units so if you want a copy of this, you better be quick as this movie is a cult favorite and loved by horror fans. This version is certainly well worth picking up and highly recommended.

The Strangers Limited Edition Blu-Ray is rated 18 and available now from all good entertainment retailers or you can purchase it directly from Second Sight Films HERE.
