HalloSCREAM! Part 1 – Preview: Beloved Beast

Well, it’s Halloween, so it’s time for horror…oh who am I kidding, any time of the year is right for horror! However, this October I plan to watch 31 movies (and have reviews for them) for the 31 on days of the month… Wish me luck, I just may need it! And it kicks off with this preview.

IT’S TIME FOR A PREVIEW! I was given a screener for upcoming horror Beloved Beast.

12-year-old Nina loses her parents in a car accident and is forced to live with her unstable Aunt Erma. Except her aunt dabbles with drugs, partying and every other thing an aunt shouldn’t do. When Nina meets a stranger in the woods, instead of running, she brings him home. Not realizing that the man she has brought home is an escaped mental patient with a penchant for murder…

So a girl, who misses her Rabbit King (her father, but The Rabbit King is a character in a book) and wanders into the forest. There, she befriends an escaped mental patient (who she calls Harvey) who she decides to is great to come home with her…and that’s when the carnage truly begins…

Bunny! He’s my friend…I think?

This movie is interesting but a bit of an oddity that has a drug ring, human trafficking, prostitution, it’s a slow burner and various other white trash building the story with the murderings not beginning until roughly halfway way through the movie, but once all the framework of the story is finally complete and in place it’s not too bad a movie and an enjoyable watch. Although I wasn’t too sure about the runtime of this movie (this movie is just under 3 hours long) it’s actually better than I’d anticipated considering.

Maybe this would be a good Easter movie…

Beloved Beast is rated R and will have a limited theatrical release in the US (Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City) before launching on DVD and Digital platforms on October 11. If you see the screening in Los Angeles several filmmakers will be in attendance and will provide a Q&A after the movie.
