Happy Death Day 2 U

I bloody hate sequels. For the most part, I really do not see the point apart from making more cash from fans. Don’t get me wrong there are times when sequels have been brilliant (Terminator 2: Judgement Day immediately springs to mind) but for the most part it’s a really REALLY bad idea.

And….here we have a weird sequel to a weird movie.

Yes, Happy Death Day 2 U is unsurprisingly the sequel to the 2017 movie Happy Death Day which I guess was kind of OK. The basic story being that a girl gets murdered by someone with a Babyface mask and then she wakes up and it happens again. And again. And again. Until she solves it.

This time it happens to Grant (some guy working on a science project in college) to begin with, but then after telling Tree (The girl who was being repeatedly murdered in the first movie) she tries to help Grant to avoid Babyface (the killer) and in the process gets trapped in the loop she was in originally from the first movie AGAIN, except this time there are significant changes in Tree’s life in this loop.

So, after her killing herself many times (queue suicide montage), being killed many times, and finding that dying so many times isn’t really doing her any favours (dying many times is bad for you, who knew?) she finally solves the puzzle of who Babyface is and gets her Timeline straight and lives happily ever after…for now.

There’s a bit during the credits that is interesting when there have been teasings of a third movie being made (do they really want to do this…really?) but I have to say I’m honestly not looking forward to a third movie if it does happen.

I’m seriously beginning to wonder if it worth going to the cinema to watch horror these days. I want my time and money back for this movie. This was weird like the first one was (killer Groundhog Day weird) with a little bit extra weird and some weird sprinkles on the side. Now usually weird isn’t a bad thing…but here it is.

Happy Death Day 2 U is rated 15 and in cinemas now.
