In Memoriam: Peter Mayhew

This morning I woke up to the the sad news that Peter Mayhew had passed away at the age of 74. His family posted the following on his Twitter

Known mostly as the Wookie called Chewbacca, Mayhew was a hospital orderly before was noticed and given the chance to star in a little sci-fi movie. He was given the choice of 2 characters which were Darth Vader abd Chewbacca. Mayhew picked Chewbacca because he wanted to be a good guy and rest is, as they say, Star Wars history.

Although the most of his acting career his been associated with Star Wars he had done some other movies too (Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger springs too mind…his part is uncredited, he plays Minoton) and some voiceover work too.

With Star Wars being one of the big franchises of my childhood I have many great many great memories from the original trilogy. Thanks for the memories Chewie, goodnight and rest well.
