IT Chapters 1&2

Me and Awesome Cupcake headed to the cinema and saw the IT double bill in IMAX.

After watching the first movie in 2017 several times with several people (and going to the Midnight screening by myself) I was really excited for the next part and couldn’t believe it was going to be a 2 year wait for the conclusion (but better than not getting one as there was word that if Chapter 1 wasn’t very successful Chapter 2 wouldn’t be filmed….to be honest was there any doubt?)

So, we entered the the IMAX screen and got ready for Chapter 1.

Step right up, dare you see Pennywise the Dancing Clown in IMAX?

IT CHAPTER ONE

It’s the Summer of 1989 and in the town of Derry a group of kids who call themselves “The Losers Club” are united by friendship and the fearful encounters with Pennywise the evil clown, who likes taking children, who they have to battle for thier on lives.

I loved watching this movie at the Midnight screening in 2017, I watched it 3 times in one day and I watched it loads of times in the cinema afterward. I have this on Blu-Ray and watch it quite a bit. I really like this movie a lot. The kids performances were amazing and Bill Skarsgard was truly phenomenal as Pennywise.

It was great to see it on an IMAX screen again with that surround sound you can only really get in a cinema, although I think the ODEON Silverlink may have had thier volume up a little too high as some sounds were a touch distorted.

In 2017 it was my movie of the year, and looking back I’d not change that at all. Awesome movie, although comparing it to the Blu-Ray I wish they’d put some of the deleted scenes in as it would mean some of the things would have been even better.

So…now we’ve caught up with the story, let’s get watching the concluding part!

IT CHAPTER TWO

So this was the concluding part of the IT story. It’s 27 years after their first encounter with the terrifying Pennywise the and The Losers Club have grown up and and moved away from Derry. They have all forgotten about what happened in that town until a devastating phonecall brings them back to battle nthe horrific dancing clown in a final showdown.

I have to say that I really enjoy this movie and it rounded off the story well. It had creepy paychological moments, it had gory moments and it had the obligatory jumpscares too, and they worked well in the movie. Bill Skarsgard once more plays Pennywise incredibly well and blows Tim Curry’s performance from 29 years ago.

The Adults selected for The Losers Club were brilliant choices and pretty much look like the kids had gone through some kind of time vortex and aged….well….27 years.

This version of the story is a lot closer to the books than the 1990 TV series but the ending is different, but I do think this was a good thing. If you’re a Stephen King fan you’ll be in for a treat as this is far less jokey (although it certainly has it’s humour) and really has the fear factor it is supposed to have. There is one thing for sure…I know many people who suffer cauldrophobia because of the 1990 miniseries, but the way that Bill Skarsgard brought Pennywise to life will get many people to fear clowns.

For the film buffs, there are 3 cameos to look out for (no, I’m not giving them away…spoilers!!), something that looks like a homage to another movie that isn’t related to Stephen King stories and a running gag throughout the movie. Yes there are the hints you’re getting but that’s all you are getting!

The only downside to this movie wasn’t down to the film but the cinema. Sadly the sound was rather loud (as in too loud) and it did distort the audio track sadly. Fortunately I was able to understand what was said so there wasn’t too much enjoyment lost.

Because I attended a screening at an ODEON cinema I got the following poster too which is one of two (next one released next week).

So, watching both chapters of IT was brilliant despite the sound issues and it meant II was caught up on the story ready for the conclusion.

In other news, however, I’ve heard that Skarsgard has said that he’d do a third movie if it would work. I seriously hope this doesn’t happen as that doesn’t make sense as the story has ended and Pennywise is finally dead. They don’t want to ruin this….

IT Chapter 1 is rated 15 and is available on DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital Download.

IT Chapter 2 is rated 15 and in cinemas now.
