Quest for the WORST Movie Part 16: Hereditary

I really wanted to see this when it was at the cinema last year but my wife doesn’t like horror movies and most of my friends weren’t up for this movie so I missed out… However, I see on social media that it’s real bad… REAL bad and I’m thinking I’m lucky that I didn’t pay to see a turkey again (thinking back to seeing The Last Purge that was bad, I really wanted my money, time and soul back after that) but like with all movies like this I knew we would cross paths again, it inevitable….it was only a matter of time.

When I mentioned that I was toying with the idea of doing Hereditary as part of the Quest so many people told not to do it, they told me they fell asleep part way through and woke up after the film finished, found it incredibly slow, found the twist yawnworthy…which just got me intreagued. No movie can really be that bad, surely…but a friend who only goes by the name Horrorbeard rants at great length as soon as the movie is slightly mentioned..this was what he had to say to me when I asked his thoughts:
Don’t mention that pile of Arsegravy to me! If you want to keep you sanity you’ll avoid it like the plague! You must be freaking mental brother….I mean really? I suppose next you’ll be telling me that 28 Days Later is a damn zombie movie! Arrrrrrrgh!
Well, that pretty much told me. I’m guessing he was slightly unimpressed with this movie.
Despite all the warnings from my friends I decided that I had to go ahead with this for the Quest. Nothing could be worse than the Birdemic Franchise. Manos was close and that’s was abysmal…so this had no hope, surely…
Oh. My. God.
They truly weren’t kidding with how bad this movie was…it was soooo ssslllloooowww, you think that something big is actually going to happen…when there is the final big twist I really just didn’t give a wet slap about what is going on because I’d been waiting for something to happen that would actually hold my interest that I was rather nonplussed by now. This movie has a runtime of just over 2 hours? Really?!? You sure it isn’t 14 hours?
Then there was lighting…or maybe the lack of it. There was too many dark shots and it makes me wonder if they had enough funds for a proper lighting crew. I have to admit that I thought the same about whoever was used to make the soundtracks as it was as monotonous as hell.
I do wonder if this movie was made because of a bet (like MANOS: The Hands of Fate) or maybe they were all intoxicated at the time. Mind you I’m also beginning to think the critics on the posters were either paid off or on some kind of drugs…this generation’s The Exorcist? To be given the respect as we give to classics such as Psycho and The Shining? Genuinely terrifying? No. On all counts no.
There is one word that sums this movie up. You won’t find it in the dictionary, but Horrorbeard beard says it all the time.
If you really must insult your senses and watch this #arsegravy then Hereditary is rated 15 and available on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital Download.
