Quest for the WORST Movie Part 22: The Sand

Oh boy the bad movies seem to flying in thick and fast at the moment…and they all seem to be horror still (although there are a few on the list soon that are not, they’re just horrific to watch..) with this one not be no exception (apparently). Ladies and gentlemen…it is my dubious pleasure to share the arseterpiece that is called The Sand (also known as Killer Beach). This movie was suggested to me yesterday by my darling wife Awesome Cupcake….um…thanks sweetie, love you too…

Lamest. Tagline. Ever.

This horror/comedy/sci-fi “epic” has a bunch of teens who have a party on a beach at night and they find a mysterious spherical thing that they bring close to a fire and the edge of the water (you see this in flashback at the beginning, this is not really spoilery). A bunch of the teens from that party then wake up in a lifeguard hut and a car (and stuck in a barrel?!?) and make a shocking discovery that if you walk on the sand you are gonna die. Nice.

This movie seems to have barely any information anywhere, I like to do a little research and there’s pretty much nothing about, not little tidbits about it, not real trivia, nothing except that it took 12 days to film the movie (which really does show) and it was shot in California. This should have been a warning for bad this was…mind you there’s a wealth of information about Birdemic:Shock and Terror so maybe not.

The acting is awful, it’s like they were being held hostage to do the movie…maybe they were, perhaps that was why the movie took 12 days to make, who knows. The effects were awful even for a low budget, low time movie. I’ve seen people record stuff on phones and edit it on the fly and do better.

What’s worse is this movie feels like the movie Blood Beach and even the poster for this 1981 movie has quite a similar vibe…have a look:

Is it me or are these movies extreme versions of floor is lava?

So, I’m not sure what to think of this movie. It’s nowhere near original, there’s no acting skill, it was filmed in 12 days, the special effects are far from special but they still beat the 8-style birds of Birdemic, so it looks like my quest sill continues for a worse movie…somehow.

The Sand is rated 15 and available on digital download.
