The Amazing Bulk – What The Very Hell Did I Just Watch?!?

I never thought I would ever say this but I found a movie that is chronically awfully bad. It has nothing decent in it at all.

The acting is awful. The CGI makes up almost all of the movie (like everything but the people starring in the movie…no joke!). The music is ear bleedingly bad. There is NO redeeming quality to this movie anywhere.

And despite this…it does not beat Birdemic because it was deliberately made to be a bad movie.

May I introduce to you….The Amazing Bulk.

One of the taglines for this is “He makes BAD look so GOOD!” and seriously…no. He really, really does not. However this picture of the Bulk is the best I’ve seen…and the most misleading.

So this movie…oh boy. Henry ‘Hank’ Howard is a scientist working on an elixir to create superhumans but is having little success…he is also hopelessly in love with the daughter of his boss. In a desperate attempt to make himself look good to his boss (and hopefully get approval to marry his daughter), Hank decides to test the formula on himself, transforms himself into a purple rage monster, leaving him at the mercy of those who want to exploit his power.

Now, reading this…does this remind you of a certain jolly Green Giant? Yup, this movie is a spoof (a mockbuster?) of the 2008 The Incredible Hulk movie and for close up of Bulk’s hands they even used toy Hulk hands painted purple!

Where do I begin on this movie with my thoughts? Well….Barring the people who star in it, nothing else is real. It is either really bad CGI, stock footage or green screen footage. There was no real filming locations and in the stock footage that is used you’ll Leprechauns in the fields! The director found many of the backgrounds that were used on the free stock footage websites which are listed in the credits.

The acting is more wooden and boring than Birdemic. Yes, I know! Madness. Again it feels like someone has been held hostage to do the movie (or it was school children actually doing the project…although saying that I resiously reckon it would have been much better if that had happened).

The music for this movie….holy crap, what the hell were they thinking? They trawled all the places to find copyright-free music to use in the music, and the selections they decided to use are awful…earbleedingly so. There are some bad soundtracks out there, but this takes the biscuit.

This film was shot in 4-5 days, it was in the editing room for OVER A YEAR and had an estimated budget of $14,000 but despite this it feels like they barely used the budget on the film but for alcohol and drugs instead (and that was just writing the script for this….mind you I’m beginning to wonder if there actually was a script!).

So, this disasterpiece runs for just over an hour and it feels like you have watched it for several when you got halfway through…..it’s an oddity at best and a torture device at worse. Best avoided I think, unless you have a thing for REALLY bad movies.

The Amazing Bulk is not rated and available on DVD.
