UHD Preview: Beetlejuice

One of the actors I think is really great is Micheal Keaton. I have seen him in so many great movies...Touch & Go, One Good Cop, Batman, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Mr. Mom...but the movie that introduced me to him and made me a fan was about the ghost with the most...BEETLEJUICE!!

Warner Home Entertainment has released Beetlejuice on 4K UHD, so let's check it out....it's showtime!!

Adam and Barbara Maitland are your typical run-of-the-mill loving couple...except they have unfortunately just been killed in a most tragic automobile accident, now all they do is haunt thier beautiful house.

They had given their precious time and effort to decorate their house to make it their own, but unfortunately, a new and rather over the top family (comprising of an over-the-top artist wife , areal-estate idea-man husband and a Gothic daughter) is moving in and they are not exactly being too quiet or subtle about it, much to Adam and Barbara's chargrin.

So what on earth are the Maitlands going to do about their peace and tranquility being shattered? Maybe they could try and scare them out themselves (they are ghosts after all!) or maybe they could hire the services of a self-proclaimed bio-exorcist, the ghost with the most...but the question is dare you say his name three times? And if you do, will you be willing to pay the price for unleashing the chaos that ensues?

Oh man, this movie is an absolute classic and I love it! This was my introduction to both Michael Keaton AND Tim Burton, which I am a fan of both (and this being my first movie with both, it totally makes sense, right?). An brilliant comedy-horror that just seems timeless to me...I have watched this movie so mant times and it just never gets old. I'm not surprised that out of all the movies Keaton has been in, this is his own.

The budget was actually low for this movie, so Burton deliberately went for B-movie style effects, which worked out really well, and just made the movie look better. It's incredible when you consider the cast were dubious of the script and the likes of Sammy Davis Jr., Sam Kinison, Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams, Christopher Lloyd, Jim Carrey, Tim Curry, Jack Nicholson, Bill Murray, Robert DeNiro John Cleese and even Arnold Schwarzenegger were considered for the lead role, it's brilliant that Keaton got it and I honestly don't think any of those actors could have made this any better and it would be have been highly unlikely it would have won it's 1990 Saturn award for Best Horror.

There have been plans for a sqeuel (Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian) with a script commissioned and Keaton is signed on to reprise his role once more, but it seems to be going nowhere sadly which is a great shame. Again, this is one movie I would like to see a sequel to.

The quality of the audio and video is brilliant, the crispness of the sound and vision is truly sublime with the 4k UHD experience it is something that has to be seen/heard to be believed...literally. I've done comparisons compared to DVD and truly the difference is astounding. Great selection of subtitles and audio languages too make the movie an excellent viewing experience. And if you check the Blu-Ray you find 3 episodes of the Beetlejuice animated series, theatrical trailer and the music only track, you have a rather nice addition for the movie collection.

But what about the collectors who want something a little different? Check out these 2 different versions available in the UK!
