Yes, today being Halloween, I had to finish with a Halloween movie....but yet again I go with a sequel, but this time because I don't understand its place. It's the Season of the Witch everyone!
Hall-o-weeeen Hall-o-weeeeen......
In the third Halloween feature--which really has little connection to the previous two--the psychotic killer is a scientist who creates a brand of satanic Halloween masks which kill the children who wear them.
Now when you look at this franchise it is just damn odd. This one does truly stick out like a sore thumb. All of the Halloween movies and this is the only one not to feature Micheal Myers (although you will see an advert for the first movie on one of the TV screens in the movie) and it truly confuses people now, so I had to do a bit of digging to see what exactly was going on when John Carpenter got involved doing this.
Turns out, that Myers was never to be all the way through this franchise after all.....but Halloween was going to be an anthology of stories for...well...Halloween. The Myers/Strode story was complete after Halloween II, so Halloween was going to be a new story, IV would have been another different story and so on....but the third movie was a disaster in many ways because fans already associated Myers with the franchise...so when the fourth movie was released several years later they had to bring everyone's favourite "Shatner-impersonating", knife-wielding killer.
I have issues with this movie....you see it feels wrong in that franchise, but looking at the movie and ignoring that it is part of the Halloween set I actually like it and it's a fun watch along with some others that I watched during the HalloSCREAM! challenge.
Halloween III: Season of the Witch is rated 15 and available on VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray and VOD.
