VOD Review - Bloodshot

As you are most likely aware, there is a global crisis out there and movies are not being shown at many cinemas. Some movies are being postponed, some are being put straight to VOD. One of the movies going the VOD route is Bloodshot starring Vin Diesel.

Based on the bestselling Valiant Comic of the same name, Bloodshot tells the story of Ray Garrison, an elite marine soldier. When he gets kidnapped, forced to see the murder of his wife and also killed, he is resurrected as Bloodshot thanks to the power of nanotechnology, making him faster, stronger and much more efficient a soldier, but he cannot remember who he is. He discovers he is part of a group of cybernetically enhanced soldiers who are made far better after being injured in the line of duty.

As time goes on, his memory floods back and he goes rogue, hellbent on getting revenge on the ones who killed him and his wife, only to discover that there is a conspiracy behind the murders and much more than meets the eye. Garrison doesn't who he can trust anymore, but the real question is can he actually trust himself?

I must confess when I first saw the trailer for Bloodshot for this I wasn't exactly impressed. With what I saw, I thought this was going to be a comic book/superhero movie that was going to be Superman Returns level...however, it didn't exactly help that I hadn't read any Bloodshot comics. I soon changed that though, and then got my copy of the movie.

Now, this is not the greatest movie in the World...but, it certainly isn't a stinker that's for sure. This is a middling movie really in comic book terms, and it could have been better. I'm not sure Vin Diesel was exactly the best choice as Bloodshot, but there could have been worse people chosen that's for sure.

It's good to see a comic book movie that is not being done by either DC Comics or Marvel, to be honest, and it's great to hear that there are more movies being based on the characters from Valiant Comics with Harbinger and Faith on the way and Archer & Armstrong hopefully as well. Valiant has a 5-movie deal, so let's hope they're good enough to continue as I'd love to see an X-O Manowar movie!

If you are interested, the movie is based on the Trade Paperback Bloodshot: Definitive Edition, which you can find details HERE.

Bloodshot is available is rated 12A and available on VOD.
